A Healthy Gut Microbiome Can Impact Your RESULTS

It’s alive! Did you know there are trillions of bacteria that live in your gastrointestinal tract? Crazy, huh! But, what is their purpose using our bellies as a crash pad? Have you ever heard your gut be referred to as your second brain? These microorganisms have the ability to create chemical messages to communicate with your brain, and therefore the rest of your body. There are “good” and “bad” bacteria which dictate the context of these messages that are sent to the big guy upstairs.  

A healthy diet rich in pre- and pro- biotics nourish the “good” bacteria in our gut, and therefore produce more desirable communication amongst the body & mind. A diet lacking in pre- & pro-biotics, with the addition of smoking, alcohol, and consumption of refined sugars feed the “bad” bacteria in our gut and produce a negative impact on communication throughout the body. Prebiotics are found in fiber-rich foods like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. It’s these pre-biotics that our good gut bacteria gain fuel from to thrive amongst the bad, and help make probiotics. Meanwhile, pro-biotics are found in a variety of fermented foods like yogurt and sauerkraut. Probiotics in food already contain live microorganisms and when eaten, help improve the good to bad bacteria ratio. It’s a balancing act!

So, what happens when we feed our body a healthy diet? What does our gut actually have to say?
