Hey, Fit Fam! My name is Liesel and I’m the registered dietitian at our Cherry Creek location.
I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed, but January seems to bring out the crazy in people. No, I mean the crazy cravings! Since we’re all cutting back on sugar and working on our healthy lifestyle habits, listen up because in today's fit tip, I am about to give you the 411 on how to calm those crazy cravings.
So what’s important to know about cravings?
Cravings typically happen because…
We Don’t have enough protein,
We don’t drink enough water,
We don’t get enough sleep,
We don’t have a routine with our meals,
We don’t get enough movement, and last, but not least we snack or graze on Unbalanced foods vs. eating real nutrient rich meals like My Fit Foods.
Now that we’ve talk about why you might feel those crazy cravings it’s time to add the simple tools to your toolbelt to help you stay calm and move on with your health goals
When a craving hits, stop and ask yourself, how much water have I had today?
It's common to mistake hunger for thirst, so before grabbing a snack, reach for a bottle of water and wait 20 minutes to see if you’re actually hungry or your mind is playing tricks on you.
Protein makes you feel more satiated and it’s really important to eat protein throughout the day if you want less cravings at night.
Next time you get a call from the late night cravings monster, hang up, and plan to eat more protein the next day! Aim for 1 g of protein per pound of lean body mass. Not sure how much that is? Stop by your local My Fit Food store and we can show you.
The best tool I can give for your toolbelt is eating 3+ meals per day.
Snacks are like appetizers:
They stimulate your digestion but prevent you from eating a full meal. We fill up on calories, but still lack essential nutrients we need to feel satisfied.
So eating balanced meals three times a day + a protein shake is gonna give your body what it needs to crush 2023.
Ok fit fam, you got this. We are here if you need more support, and would love to coach you through it.
If you already have your craving on lock, be sure to send this to your friends who have crazy cravings too.
See you soon!
